The women's USA Olympic squad was dominate in the preliminary round against Croatia on Saturday, demolishing the team 81-56. The Americans controlled the game from the start, though the first quarter was extremely low scoring with Team USA outscoring Croatia 11-4.
There was a turn in the second period, though, when Croatia rallied to outscore Team USA, 24-20 and make the game competitive for a little while. But Tina Charles (14 points), Angel McCoughtry (13), Candace Parker (11) and Tamika Catchings (10) along with the rest of the USA group proved to be too much for Croatia. The Americans were overwhelming in the second half, capping it all off in the fourth quarter by outscoring Croatia, 28-9.
Jelena Ivezic and Marija Vrsaljko put in most of the work offensively, with 22 and 19 points, respectively.
Next up for Team USA is Angola.
