Olympic Medal Count: USA, China Lead After Day 3 In London

The USA tied China for the medal count lead at the Olympics in London on Monday, thanks to some solid performances in the swimming pool. In the men's 100m backstroke, Americans took both the gold and silver medals with Matt Grevers and Nick Thorman going one and two in that event. It was the first time the U.S. won more than on medal in a single event in these Olympics.

Ryan Lochte, while expected to win the 200m freestyle, placed fourth in disappointing fashion.

You can check out the top five in the medal count right here:

China, 17 (9 gold, 5 silver, 3 bronze)
United States, 17 (5, 7, 5)
Japan, 11 (1, 4, 6)
Italy, 8 (2, 4, 2)
France, 7 (3, 1, 3)

Also worth noting: the only team beyond that top five with three gold medals is North Korea; Great Britain moved into a five-way tie for ninth with its third medal.
