2012 Olympics London Medal Count: United States Takes Top Spot

The 2012 Olympic Games are coming to a close and the United States has pulled away from China and has taken the top spot in the medal count by a large margin.

The U.S. finished with 104 total medals of which 46 were gold and capped off nicely by Team USA's win over Spain in Basketball on Sunday. China was right with the United States for most of the games but was unable to keep up that pace late finishing with 87 medals.

Russia made a late run at China but comes in third with 82 total. Great Britain and Germany round out the top five of the 2012 Olympics.

Here is a the final top five in the medal count:

1. United States, 104 (46 Gold, 29 Silver, 29 Bronze)
2. China, 87 (38, 27, 22)
3. Russia, 82 (24, 25, 33)
4. Great Britain, 65 (29, 17, 19)
5. Germany, 44 (11, 19, 14)
