London Olympics Medal Count: Atlanta Athletes Earn 11 Medals

At the London Olympic Games there were 11 medals won by Atlanta athletes with Allison Schmitt winning five of those.

The United States won the overall medal count over China at the 2012 London Olympics, and some of those medals came from athletes who have ties to the Atlanta area. Overall there were 11 medals won from local athletes. One of the best was Allision Schmitt who won five medals in swimming by setting two american records, a world record and two Olympic records.

Shannon Vreeland, swimming, 4x200m relay, gold medal
Amanda Weir, swimming, 4x100m medley relay, gold medal
Angel McCoughtry, basketball, gold medal
Christian Taylor, triple jump, gold medal
Reese Hoffa, shot put, bronze medal
Aries Merritt, 110m hurdles, gold medal
