Atlanta Hawks general manager Danny Ferry recently sat down for an in-depth interview with Grantland's Charles Bethea where he discussed many topics regarding the new look Hawks. In the interview Ferry hinted at what he wants to see the Hawks eventually become.
"I like teams that move the ball and play defense. That are unselfish, that care every night. Teams that play with a system that the coach defines, so it's clear what the purpose is when they're out there on both ends of the court."
Since Ferry came onboard the Hawks are certainly capable of going in a number of directions. The trades of Joe Johnson and Marvin Williams have given the club financial flexibility and that will open up a number of avenues over the course of the next couple of seasons. Ferry made it clear however that the team doesn't want to necessarily take a step backwards. He feels they can still be competitive as currently constructed.
"Well, we have good players now to be competitive now. And we're in a position to be opportunistic going forward. We're not only going down one path. The map that we're standing on now has a lot of different roads that we can take. Whereas a month ago there really was only one road."
