2012 London Olympics Medal Count: United States The Overall Leader

After Thursday's medal events, the United States is now the sole leader atop the medal count board

The U.S. have 37 total medals followed by China who has 34 and the next highest medal winner is Korea at 14 medals won thus far at the 2012 London Olympic games. America currently holds 18 gold medals (which ties them with China), nine silver medals and 10 bronze.

The US. swimmers are responsible for the bulk of the medals won by America so far

Ryan Lochte has won five total medals (two gold, two silver, one bronze) while Michael Phelps, the most decorated U.S. Olympian ever has won four medals at the games (two gold, two silver).

On the women's side, Allison Schmitt has won four total medals (two gold, one silver, one bronze) while Missy Franklin has three medals (two gold, one bronze).
