As the running events are set to get underway in London for the 2012 Olympics, Georgia Tech alumnus Angelo Taylor is looking to set a record.
No hurdler has ever won three Olympic gold medals in the 400-meter hurdles. Taylor is one of three to win two golds. The first-round heats are on Friday, followed by Saturday's semifinals, and the final is on Monday.Taylor's 400-meter golds came in 2000 and 2008. He is the second-oldest hurdler in London's 400-meter field. From the Atlanta Journal Constitution:
"I want to do something no one's ever done before," Taylor said before leaving for London. "That's my motivation."
Before Georgia Tech, Taylor graduated from Southwest DeKalb High. His main competition in London likely will be Puerto Rico's Javier Culson and Great Britain's David Greene.
