Virginia Tech Hokies
Lane Stadium, Worsham Field, Blacksburg, Virginia, Sept. 3

Coach: Frank Beamer (251-121-4 overall, 110-37 conf, 209-98-2 at VT)
Last Year: (11-3, 7-1)
Best Wins: 37-26 win over the Yellow Jackets and then a 38-0 shutout win over Virginia to clinch the Coastal Division crown.
Worst Loss: The Hokies couldn't solve Clemson in 2011 falling 23-3 in the regular season and 38-10 in the ACC Championship Game.
Returning Starters: 12 ( 3 Offense, 9 Defense)

Stock watch for 2012

Virginia Tech returns only three offensive starters but has experience at quarterback in Logan Thomas. The offense will look to be more efficient in 2012 and might not need to score a lot of points given the experience of a defensive unit that returns nine starters. Injuries in 2011 derailed the Hokies' defense slightly but a healthy season by key players could help them to take the next step in 2012.

2012 Outlook:

Georgia Tech faces the tough task of having perhaps its most crucial conference game occur in the opener. Even more problematic is that the game is in Blacksburg where the Hokies are 15-1 in their last 16 home openers. Thomas wore the Yellow Jackets' defense down last season and it will be key for the Yellow Jackets defense to have a much better performance this time around. Tech's offense will face one of its stiffest tests of the season right away and the winner will have a leg up in the Coastal Division race.
