Georgia Recruit Called By A Fan, And The First Rule Of Recruiting Is Broken

SB Nation's recruiting guru Bud Elliot and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Michael Carvell both have stories regarding alleged contact between a fan we could all agree to deem "overzealous" and a potential Bulldog - College of the Sequoias' Steven Nelson. The gist - the fan and Nelson chatted briefly about a rumor that Nelson had switched his commitment to Texas Tech, and the fan told Nelson he was a great football player. That's all.

But stil, in case we're somehow unclear about this: NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO STOP IT NOW.

Poison the trees. Breathlessly explain your conspiracy theories regarding a rival school's success during a call-in radio show. Slander, libel and overpass-deface yourself stupid with vitriol. Hell - fight in church about a blown call (during a funeral, even. We're kinda hoping at least a few fistfights break out at ours). Hype and revel in the mystique of the wonky, bonkers world of SEC fandom.

But DO NOT CONTACT HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS. There's never a good reason to do this, and you don't risk hurting your favorite team; in the Twitter and Facebook epoch of the Internet Age, you're all but guaranteed to hurt that which you love the very most. It might be just a solid round of scorn and shame, which is what this particular moron is earning at the moment, or it could be a secondary violation (or stronger) that might prompt your fellow deranged loyalists to rip you limb from limb.

That's all. Carry on.
