UGA Football Depth Chart: Branden Smith Likely Punt Returner

Senior Branden Smith looks to be the favorite to open the season as the Georgia Bulldogs' punt returner, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Smith, who recorded two interceptions as a cornerback for Georgia last year, has the inside track barring any injuries.

"Obviously Branden Smith is the most seasoned guy we have back there and he's probably the most comfortable being back there," Bryan McClendon said.

Smith has 19 punt returns in his career for an 11.3(-yard) average. That would have ranked him fifth in the SEC this past season.

Smith has been competing with sophomores Malcolm Mitchell and Damian Swann, along with freshman Sheldon Dawson. The four players are competing to replace Brandon Boykin, who was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the fourth round of the 2012 NFL Draft.
