Georgia Football Preseason: Freshman Sheldon Dawson Getting A Lot Of Reps

Georgia's defense is considered one of the best in the SEC, making it a tough squad for a freshman to find playing time on. However, cornerback Sheldon Dawson has impressed thus far and could see time on the field in his first season.

"Sheldon’s made a bunch of plays out there," coach Mark Richt said. "He’s already proved to me that physically he has the tools to play that position. He’s still learning and he’ll get better at what he does. The bottom line is you’ve got to have the physical ability to play the position and stick to a receiver. He has that. He plays the ball very well."

Also helping Dawson's case for playing time are the suspensions to several members of Georgia's secondary. Safety Bacarri Rambo is suspended for four games for a failed drug test, while cornerback Sanders Commings is suspended two games following a domestic violence arrest.
