Friday is a busy day at Bristol Motor Speedway. After the Nationwide Series qualifying is completed, the Sprint Cup series qualifying follows right after, which is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. ET. The Sprint Cup Series qualifying will then be followed by the Nationwide series' Food City 250.
The Sprint Cup qualifying will be broadcast on ESPN2 starting at 5 p.m. The qualifying record for Bristol Motor Speedway is held by Ryan Newman, who clocked a lap of 128.709 miles per hour (14.908 seconds) in March 2003. Newman also won the pole in last year's night race.
The track has been reconfigured to have 36-degree banking in the turns and 16-degree banking on the straights. The turns had previously been configured to be a little flatter than in years past, but fans demanded that the track be given the high banking again.
