The Atlanta Falcons got off to a slow start on Friday night against the Miami Dolphins. In the first half, Atlanta managed to put just nine points on the board on three field goals, wasting an impressive effort by quarterback Matt Ryan who went into halftime with 162 passing yards and completing 12 of his 18 passes.
But Ryan continued to play well (18-26 for 220 yards) as Atlanta picked things up in the second half and came away with the 23-6 win, their first of the NFL preseason.
Falcaholic blogger Dave Choate called the game, "From Boredom To Thrills" and was extremely impressed with the Falcons, especially on defense:
The Falcons showed middling acumen on offense early on and improved as the game went by, but the team certainly showed a lot better on defense. The first-team D pretty effortlessly shut down rookie Ryan Tannehill and showed well in the pass rush, and the secondary defensed plenty of passes. I'm extremely encouraged by the defense thus far in pre-season.
