Ben Sheets Injury Update: Sheets to the 15-day DL With Shoulder Issues

Ben Sheets has been sent to the 15-day DL with right shoulder inflammation, the Atlanta Braves announced on Saturday. The Braves called up Miguel Bautista from Triple-A Gwinnett to take his spot on the roster.

The Braves signed Sheets to a minor league contract in July as he attempted to mount a comeback to the major leagues. Sheets made his first start on July 15, pitching six shutout innings against the Mets. He won his first three games, going 18 IP with a 0.50 ERA and 15 strikeouts.

Lately, Sheets has struggled quite a bit. His ERA on the year is still only 3.54, but in his last three starts (all losses), he has given up 14 earned runs in 14.1 innings. On the year, Sheets is 4-4 with a 3.54 ERA.

Miguel Batista is a 13-year MLB veteran who has pitched in six games for the Gwinnett Braves, going 1-1 with a 3.38 ERA. The Braves will be the 12th major league baseball team he has pitched for.
