Veteran starters Tim Hudson and Tim Lincecum face off on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball as the Braves look to avert a third straight series loss.
Hudson (12-4, 3.69 ERA) gave up four first inning runs in his most recent outing against Washington but settled in to shut the Nationals down after that. Big innings have plagued Hudson this season due to his struggles out of the stretch, but in his last start against San Francisco on July 19, he pitched 7 1/3 innings and allowed just two runs.
Lincecum (7-13, 5.30 ERA), meanwhile, appears to be emerging from his first-half fog and has posted a 3.10 ERA in eight starts since the All-Star Break. His strikeout and walk rates this year are fairly similar to his career numbers, so Lincecum was bound to see improvement. Still, his ERA (5.30) is more than two runs higher than his career average (3.27).
