U.S. Open 2012: Rain Suspends Play On Monday

Opening day action of the U.S. Open has been suspended because of rain in Flushing, N.Y. On the men's side of action, five matches were in progress when play was suspended.

No. 17 ranked Kei Nishikori leads Guido Andreizzori after winning the first two sets 6-1, 6-2, but currently trails the third set 3-2. James Blake leads his match with Lukas Lacko, 7-5, 6-2. Bobby Reynolds and Tim Smyczek are both tied entering the third set. No. 24 ranked Marcel Granollers won the first set against Denis Kudla but is trailing in the second set.

On the women's side, No. 7 Samantha Stosur, Casey Dellacqua, Anna Tatishvili all won in straight sets. No. 27 Anabel Medina Garriques was upset by Lucie Hradecka in straight sets. No. 11 Marion Bartoli and No. 19 Nadia Petrova both lead their matches but are tied in the second set. No. 9 ranked Na Li won the first set of her match and is leading 5-3 against Heather Watson in the second set.

Both No. 16 Sabine Lisicki and No. 18 Julia Goerges are having difficulties in their first round matches. Lisicki split her first two sets but is leading 1-0 in the third set while Goerges is trailing Kristyna Pliskova in the second set.
