Former Georgia Bulldog Reese Hoffa won bronze in the men's shot put in London on Friday.
Hoffa's mark was 21.23 meters. Tomasz Majewski of Poland defended his Olympic shot put title, winning the gold with a mark of 21.89 meters. David Storl of Germany took silver.
The 34-year-old Hoffa graduated from UGA in 2001, lives in Athens and is coached by Georgia assistant Don Babbitt. This was his third trip to the Olympics, qualifying in 2004 and 2008. In Beijing, he reached the finals and finished seventh.
His breakthrough to a medal sure was close, as American Christian Cantwell finished fourth with a mark of 21.19 meters.
