U.S. Open 2012 Tennis Scores: Serena Williams Cruises To Third Round

With her sister set to play tonight, Serena Williams wrapped the day session at Arthur Ashe Stadium early on Thursday, easily dispatching of Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez in straight sets in second round action, 6-2, 6-4.

Williams was efficient in the first set, winning six of the eight games in just more than 30 minutes. The second set took slightly longer at 48 minutes. Sanchez was only being able to break Williams once over the course of the match, which Serena was easily able to overcome.

Williams' 11 aces during the match helped bring her to 32 winners over the course of the 18 games. Her six double faults, however, might be cause for concern moving forward for the fourth seed in the women's draw. Sanchez, for her part, was only able to create five winners during the match, but did keep her unforced errors low, collecting only 12 — seven of which were double faults.

Williams will next face Ekatarina Markova of Russia, currently ranked 42nd in the world.
