Georgia State got off to a rough start to the season in their 33-6 loss to South Carolina State on Thursday night. The offensive line couldn't support the new hurry-up offense the Panthers wanted to run, as S,C, State's defensive front pressured the back field. S.C. State had six sacks for the game.
Perhaps even more telling of the beatdown, though: Georgia State's defense was on the field for 78 plays. The Panthers got worked in the opener. Here are some thoughts from head coach Bill Curry, via the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:
"Clearly this was a huge disappointment. We will not concede anything. We will go back to work tomorrow morning and keep working until the way we perform the way we can. ... We will be a good football team this year."
*When asked how this year's team, and this result, different from last year, when the team went 3-8?
"I don't think you can avoid that comparison but we aren't the same group that we were a year ago at all. Not the same attitude, not the same work ethic. We have drastically improved those things and now we have to improve the performance on the field."
