Tyler Bray is 15-for-24 for 226 yards on the night, with two touchdowns and one fumble. Cordarrelle Patterson leads the team in both rushing (67 yards) and receiving (6 catches, 93 yards).
Tennessee got on the board first when Bray connected with Patterson with a 41-yard touchdown pass. Michael Palardy missed the extra point, making it 6-0 Vols. NC State pulled ahead briefly with a touchdown of their own, but Tennessee would put the final two minutes of the quarter to good use.
With 1:07 left in the quarter Bray connected for another touchdown, this time a 72-yard play with Zach Rogers. The extra point was good this time, making it 13-7 Tennessee. With :51 left to play, Curt Maggitt picked up a sack and forced a fumble that was recovered by NC State, giving Tennessee a safety and making it 15-7. On the next possession, Patterson picked up his second touchdown of the night with a 67-yard run, putting his team ahead 22-7.
NC State added another seven points to the board in the second quarter, and it looked like Tennessee would have a chance to answer in the quarter's closing minute. But after driving the ball 72 yards to the NC State 1, Bray ran the ball on 3rd and goal and fumbled. The Wolfpack recovered, and the half ended with the score 22-14.
