2012 U.S. Open Tennis Results: Andy Roddick, David Ferrer And Maria Sharapova All Advance

Andy Roddick advanced in the 2012 U.S. Open, ensuring that his retirement is postponed for at least one more match. He defeated Bernard Tomic on Friday in straight sets. David Ferrer, the No. 4 seed, beat Igor Sijsling to advance. In the women's singles draw, top seed Victoria Azarenka beat Jie Zheng and third seeded Maria Sharapova beat Mallory Burdette.

Local players in the U.S. Open had a mixed day. Irina Falconi, a resident of Atlanta, was elminated from the mixed doubles draw when she and partner Steve Johnson lost to Bob Bryan and Kim Clijsters. John Isner, born in Greensboro, NC had a better day, advancing to the third round of the men's singles draw with a win over Jarkko Nieminen.
