In the final swimming event at the London Olympics, the United States women swim team won the 4x100 medley relay in a world record time of 3:52.05 with the team of Missy Franklin, Rebecca Soni, Dana Vollmer and Georgia Bulldog Allison Schmitt. This team defeated Australia who finished with a time of 3:54.02 and then coming in third place was Japan who was in a distance third with 3:55.73. Schmitt swam the freestyle leg of the medley relay in a time of 53.97.
The win for Schmitt earned her fifth medal of the London Olympics -- sixth overal with a bronze medal in Beijing -- and has the most Olympic medals for any Georgia athlete.
For the United States women's team this was their eighth gold medal in the 2012 Olympic Games and makes 14 swimming medals total for the women in London.
