The U.S. Women's Olympic team tied a national team record with a 114-66 rout of China to wrap up the preliminary round undefeated at 5-0. Next up for Team USA will be a cross over match up with Canada.
The team got off to a sluggish start defensively against China and only led 31-28 at the end of the first quarter. Team USA would clamp down from there allowing China just 38 points the rest of the way and outscoring them 30-8 in the second quarter.
After struggling early in the tournament Diana Taurasi is finding her stride which is bad news for the rest of the Olympic field. Taurasi finished with a game-high 22 points. Angel McCoughtry added 16 points off the bench while Atlanta native Maya Moore added 12. Tina Charles returned to the starting lineup and finished with 12 points and five rebounds. Candace Parker and Lindsey Whalen each finished with 10 points to round out U.S. players in double figures.
Nan Chen led China with 16 points while Xiaoyun Song added 15.
