Virginia Vs. Georgia Tech: Cavaliers Running Game Presents Challenge For Yellow Jackets

Virginia upset Georgia Tech in 2011 thanks to a big day on the ground that saw the Cavaliers pile up 272 rushing yards. The Yellow Jackets would like to avoid a repeat this season, and in order to do that, they'll have to be better at the point of attack. Linebacker Brandon Watts said Virginia controlled the line of scrimmage in last year's meeting:

Georgia Tech outside linebacker Brandon Watts didn’t need any review of game video to recall last year’s loss to Virginia.

"They just beat us up front," Watts said following Tech's win over Presbyterian Saturday. "They beat us on the edges, on the perimeter, just ran the ball right down our throat."

Through two games this season, the Yellow Jackets are allowing 120.5 yards on the ground, which ranks 52nd nationally. Virginia hasn't had much success running the ball in 2012, as it ranks 99th in rushing yards per game.
