The Georgia Southern Eagles fell from third to 10th in the FCS rankings after losing to The Citadel, 23-21.
The Eagles are one of the main contenders to win the FCS National Championship, but suffered an early defeat to the previously unranked Bulldogs. After beating the Eagles, The Citadel moved to No. 23.
Two other teams from the Southern Conference are also ranked in the top 25 of the FCS Coaches Poll. The Appalachian State Mountaineers are seventh, while the Wofford Terriers check in at ninth.
The Eagles play Wofford on Oct. 13 in what could be a showdown between two of the top teams in the conference.
North Dakota State is No. 1 overall and looks like a strong favorite to repeat as a champion.
