Kris Medlen Earns Odd Honor For Recent Success

Atlanta Braves pitcher Kris Medlen was named the Head & Shoulders Mane Man of the Month for August beating Derek Jeter, Felix Hernandez and Todd Frazier for the award, which was based on fan balloting.

Medlen ran away with the award this month, taking more than 41 percent of the vote. Jeter finished in second with 30 percent, with Frazier and Hernandez rounding out the poll with 15 percent and 8 percent respectively.

Medlen earned his place on the ballot after going 4-0 in August with a microscopic 0.50 ERA. Medlen gave up only two earned runs in 35-2/3 innings while striking out 35 batters. Medlen went on a 28-1/3 inning scoreless streak in August, which was the longest such streak since Greg Maddux in 2000.

This is the second award for Medlen this month, who was also named the National League Pitcher of the Month for August.
