Hawks Coach Larry Drew In Israel To Observe David Blatt

Early on Wednesday, it was reported that Atlanta Hawks head coach Larry Drew was in Israel to visit with David Blatt, who is the head coach of Maccabi Tel Aviv, and could possibly bring him aboard as an assistant coach.

However, that report is being refuted by Hawks general manager Danny Ferry, who sas that the Hawks are not attempting to hire Blatt, and that Drew is meeting with him in Israel to exchange ideas:

"Larry respects the international game and is enjoying the opportunity to share ideas with David Blatt," Ferry wrote in a text message. "David is a heckuva coach and I know that Larry appreciates that David has been so open. I know Larry is enjoying the opportunity to closely watch [Maccabi's] program. It is a highly respected program."

Going halfway across the globe to see a team practice does seem to be quite excessive, but it is probably better seeing how Blatt handles a practice in person. However, this would allow Drew to get an up-close view and able to ask questions with instant feedback.
