FAU Vs. Georgia: $1 Million Payout To Owls Biggest In Georgia's History

When Florida Atlantic travels to Athens, Ga., Saturday to play Georgia, the school will receive a $1 million payout, which is the largest amount Georgia has ever given to an opponent in school history, according to a report in the Athens Banner-Herald.

Florida Atlantic, which finished 1-11 last season and is off to a 1-1 start this year, faces No. 7 Georgia (2-0) and No. 1 Alabama (2-0) in back-to-back weeks and will receive a sizable payout from both universities in what former FAU coach Howard Schnellenberger likes to call "money games."

Schnellenberger, who is in charge of scheduling for FAU, told the Banner-Herald that the program has played roughly 25 "money games" against opponents such as Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Michigan State, Minnesota and Texas. FAU will add Georgia and Alabama to that list in the next two weeks.

From those 25 games, Schnellenberger estimates FAU has generated $12.5 million in revenue.
