With just 18 games left in the 2012 regular season, a look at the MLB standings shows the Atlanta Braves are in prime position to make a postseason run. The Braves remain at the top of the Wild Card race and are comfortably ahead. At 81-64, Atlanta is seven games in front of the Los Angeles Dodgers for the final playoff spot.
The Braves aren't likely to catch the Washington Nationals for the division lead. Atlanta sits 8.5 games back in the NL East.
Atlanta is likely to end up in the Wild Card one-game playoff on Oct. 5, which features the top two teams that did not win a division. The Braves are in position to have home-field advantage for that game, as they are five ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals.
