Florida Atlantic Vs. Georgia: Bulldogs Fans Now Behind Mark Richt

The Georgia Bulldogs are off to a 2-0 start after defeating the Missouri Tigers last Saturday, and the Georgia fanbase is feeling much better about head coach Mark Richt than they were a year ago.

After an 0-2 beginning to 2011, many were doubting the abilities of Richt. Those doubts were erased as the Bulldogs went on a 10-game winning streak to reach the SEC title game. Georgia is now favorites to repeat as SEC East champions and contend for a national title.

Former FAU coach Howard Schellenberger heaped praise on Richt, as reported by dogbytesonline.com:

We can forgive the fans for being wrong in their opinion of the great Mark Richt," said Howard Schnellenberger, Richt’s coach at Miami who set up Saturday’s Florida Atlantic game at Georgia before retiring as Owls coach. "He’s a great coach. He’s proved them wrong. He’s now one of the dominant coaches, if not the dominant coach in the conference. Fans often rush to judgment.

Richt is in his 12th season as Georgia's head coach. He has compiled 108-38 record and has taken the team to three Sugar Bowl appearances, with the most recent coming in 2007. The Bulldogs recovered from a rebuilding year in 2010, in which they won just six games, to go 10-4 in 2011.

Georgia takes on the FAU Owls on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET.
