The Sun Belt conference could be moving its operations up to Atlanta. Currently, the league is run out of New Orleans, but in addition to Atlanta, a move to Orlando, Nashville, Memphis and Birmingham is being considered, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Besides looking to move the league headquarters, the conference is also exploring the idea of moving its postseason basketball tournament to those cities. The tournament is currently played in Hot Springs, Ark., through 2013-14 and could return there.
"The priority is finding the right location for our basketball tournament," Benson said. He said they want a city that will be good for fans to travel to, that will provide a good experience and will result in good attendance. Because the conference spreads from Texas to Florida, he said somewhere in the middle would be ideal.
On Friday, Benson toured Gwinnett Arena with members of the Georgia State athletic department.
