Falcons Vs. Chargers: Robert McClain Finds Role In Atlanta Secondary

Atlanta Falcons cornerback Robert McClain went from being on the verge of being cut from the team to becoming a key player in the Falcons' defense in a short period of time. For those who don't think preseason matters, there's McClain proving how it can be a place where a man finds himself a job.

From there, it's been about contributing and consistently giving the Falcons a reason to keep him around. Veteran cornerback Dunta Robinson told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, essentially, that it's all about being opportunistic in this league.

McClain took his opportunity on Monday Night Football, lined up against Brandon Stokley and intercepted a pass thrown by Peyton Manning.

Here was head coach Mike Smith on McClain:

"Every time that he's gotten an opportunity to go out on the field, he's made something happen. He did that again [Monday]. He got in for a couple snaps, had the nice interception, nice return. He's a guy that's played a little bit in the league, but doesn't have a whole lot of game experience."
