Vanderbilt Vs. Georgia: Malcolm Mitchell Happy With Growing Responsibility

Malcolm Mitchell is one of those players that can do a lot of different things on the football field. That's how he ended up being switched from a Georgia Bulldogs' wide receiver last season to cornerback this season, after being the No. 2 receiver who hauled in 45 receptions for 665 yards.

On Saturday in the Dawgs' blowout win against Vanderbilt, Mitchell was in his first game at cornerback, but played like he'd been there before. He had five total tackles, had a run on a reverse for 16 yards, brought in a reception for six and had a 22-yard punt return to set up the Bulldogs in Commodores territory on their opening drive, which led to a touchdown.

Mitchell seemed happy with his performance, saying it felt good to be able to do so much for the team.

"He really has been a guy who has sacrificed for the team," Richt said, via Dog Bytes. "I think his idea of playing both ways was doing what he's been doing on offense, and helping on defense. I don't think his idea was necessarily to be a full-time defensive football player."
