Josh Smith has historic New Years for Atlanta Hawks

The forward accomplished something just eight players had done before him.

Josh Smith not only dropped a game high in points for the Atlanta Hawks in their fifth win in six games by a 95-86 score over the New Orleans Hornets on New Years Day, he did something more historic. Besides putting up 23 points on the evening, Smith also grabbed 13 rebounds, seven assists, four blocks and three steals, making him just the ninth player in NBA history to have such a stat line.

Smith is averaging 16.9 points per contest in addition to 8.3 rebounds in 28 games played this season for the Hawks. The ninth year player out of nearby College Park put away 17 points against the Houston Rockets on New Years Eve after missing the Hawks Dec. 29 game against the Indiana Pacers.

The Hawks wrap up a quick three game road trip on Friday night when they head north to face one of the Eastern Conference's worst teams in the Detroit Pistons.
