After a walk by Nate McLouth, Alex Gonzalez sacrificed him over to second. Why you would bunt with Rick Ankiel on deck, I’m unsure. Ankiel predictably struck out, and Eric Hinske (who, honestly, should probably have started instead) popped up to second to record the third out. Hanson was pulled after just 89 pitches in order to get Hinske to the plate, going 5 scoreless innings, allowing 7 hits and walking 2. He’s been replaced in the game by Johnny Venters.
Buster Posey had a chance to break the drought in San Francisco, up with two outs and two men on, but he struck out to end the threat. Padres still lead 4-0 in a game that’s looking much more interesting than it has any right to be.
