Saints, LeBron James, Giants Among AP Sports Stories Of The Year: Ugh

The Associated Press has announced its 2010 sports stories of the year, headlined by, of course, the Tiger Woods accident and subsequent drama. But three of the rest of the top five involve stories directly relevant to Atlanta teams, and none of them in pleasant ways.

The New Orleans Saints Super Bowl run made the second spot. The only team the Falcons fan is expected to hate at all times, the Saints quickly became the new America's team as beautiful and mannered Drew Brees led them to a title that prompted every writer on earth to use words like city and redemption as one-word sentences with line breaks before and after.

It's about city.

↵

Redemption.

↵

Brees.

↵

All to the stomach-turning of any cultured Atlantan.

LeBron James shows up next, famously dumping the Cleveland Cavaliers to join the Atlanta Hawks' Southeast Division. At No. 5, the San Francisco Giants World Series win -- the Giants beat the Atlanta Braves in the NLDS as Buster Posey was out.

Is it 2011 yet?
