Kris Benson apparently announced his retirement on Monday, which the internet is only just now getting around to realizing. The former Pirates, Mets, Orioles, Rangers, and Diamondbacks pitcher was a decent major league player at various stops and hung around the league for over a decade, but the public's reaction to his retirement reminds us once again of the only thing anybody ever knew about him: his hot wife used to say a lot of attention-grabbing things.
↵Case in point: Anna Benson, the name of the pitcher's Atlanta-born wife, is currently the No. 1 item on Google Trends, meaning it's the hottest search term right now. Not Kris Benson, the MLB pitcher who just announced his retirement. But the wife of the pitcher, who did FHM magazine like four years ago. Look at me not even showing you a photograph of her. I'll link to her Wikipedia, and that's about it.
↵In less volcanic times, Kris Benson was the star pitcher of Marietta, Georgia's Sprayberry juggernaut that also featured future All-Star Marlon Byrd. He pitched on the bronze-winning team in the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta before moving along to play for Clemson.
