Falcons: You've heard about the NHL's Guardian Project marketing campaign, which involves promoting teams by commissioning comic book-style images for each? Apparently the NFL had the same idea a few years ago. But here's where it gets good: the league wanted to use specific players, and not just representations of team mascots.

They wanted to use Falcons QB Michael Vick as the centerpiece, but Marvel Comics had reservations -- using specific athletes could wind up being embarrassing since athletes sometimes do stupid things without notice. Not all comic book heroes are capable of seeing the future, but Marvel Comics may be able to. (ht Gobbler Country)
