Longtime baseball genius Rob Neyer, perhaps the internet's most respected baseball writer, announced yesterday he'd be moving on from the gig he'd held at ESPN.com since before there was an ESPN.com. Today we're super pumped to share the news that Neyer will be joining SB Nation as our National Baseball Editor.
Here are a few Braves stories Neyer has written over the past year or so: approval of the Dan Uggla trade, wondering whether Fredi Gonzalez was the right hire, a defense of Brooks Conrad, comments on John Smoltz' transition to the booth, and -- my personal favorite -- a story on Jason Heyward already being better than Jeff Francoeur.
↵That last one's from all the way back in 2009, by the way, making it a little bit more substantial of a claim.
↵I got to meet Neyer in January. He comes across as a genuine, inquisitive guy, asking me about the moment I first became an Atlanta Braves fan. (Shortly after baseball was invented in 1991, obviously.) Our network continues to expand its reputation as a source for great sports fan writing, and I can confirm Rob Neyer is indeed a great sports fan.
