As expected, Braves pitcher Jair Jurrjens was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with a side injury.
Jurrjens pitched a bullpen session in Washington on Thursday, and he said he felt "good," but the Braves are remaining cautious with the pitcher. He threw all of his pitches during a 30-pitch session.
Jurrjens was hampered by various injuries, including a knee and hamstring injury, in 2010, resulting in missed time in May and the playoffs in October. Jurrjens came into spring camp this year in better shape, losing weight and adding muscle. However, his 2011 season is not getting off on the right foot with this news.
All signs point toward Jurrjens returning to the mound April 9 against the Phillies in Atlanta. The retroactive date allows for him to miss only a couple days from his original season debut of April 6 in Milwaukee.
Mike Minor was called up from AAA to make the spot start April 6 against the Brewers.
