Jair Jurrjens Throws Sim Game, Ryan Howard Continues Hot Hitting, John Buck Leads Marlins To Win: Braves Cup Of Coffee

Recapping the events of April 6:

Braves starter Jair Jurrjens threw a successful 75-pitch simulation Wednesday (link). Jurrjens will start a rehab game at AAA Gwinnett on Monday to determine whether he is ready to come off the disabled list for a Friday start next week.

Marlins outfielder Mike Stanton continues to work toward a return to the lineup this weekend, possibly Friday (link).

The Phillies are looking at a return around the All-Star break for reliever Brad Lidge (link).

Phillies 10, Mets 7
(PHI) Ryan Howard: 4-4, 2 2B, HR, 2 RBI
(PHI) Placido Polanco: 3-5, 3 RBI
(NYM) Angel Pagan: 2-5, HR, 2 RBI

- The Phillies moved to 4-1 while the Mets moved to 3-2. Both Joe Blanton and Mike Pelfrey were roughed up, each allowing seven runs. All seven against Blanton came in the fourth and fifth innings.
- Howard is 11-21 with two homers and eight RBI this season. He has had at least two hits in all but one game so far.

Marlins 7, Nationals 4
(FLA) John Buck: 2-4, 3B, 3 RBI
(FLA) Chris Coghlan: 4-5, 3 R, 3 2B
(WAS) Ian Desmond: 4-5, 2 2B, 2 RBI

- The Marlins moved to 3-2 while the Nationals moved to 1-4. Both teams suffered from shaky pitching, as Livan Hernandez walked five and allowed four runs in five innings, and Chris Volstad walked four and allowed four runs in five innings.
- Buck came within inches of hitting his second grand slam this season, knocking one off the top of the wall for a three-run triple.
