Bobby Cox threw the first pitch to Fredi Gonzalez before the Braves successful home opener against the Phillies (which also featured Chipper Jones' 2,500th career hit), thereby completing various metaphors and synecdoches about life and sport and manhood.

It was unsettling seeing the skipper sit in the seats and not cuss at anybody, but you mainly just highly approve of the boss taking the mound with jersey tails flying. Who's gonna tell Bobby Cox to tuck in his jersey at Turner Field? This man should charge the bunkers at Augusta National just to see what happens.

Speaking of Masters charges, Tiger Woods has finally decided to rally. If he can keep his thunderous late-Friday pace going, Sunday is going to be a blast.

No. 8 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets baseball fell to No. 1 Virginia in their relatively hyped series opener, a similar fate to those met by the Hawks at the hands of the Pacers and the Thrashers by those blasted Hurricanes.

But look on the bright side -- the Georgia Force beat those despised Dallas Vigilantes.
