Nationals Vs. Braves: Craig Kimbrel Blows Save, Atlanta Falls 7-3 In 11 Innings

Atlanta keeps finding ways to lose after falling 7-3 in 11 innings after initially taking a 3-1 lead into the ninth. With Craig Kimbrel on to close for the Braves in the ninth, Washington's Alex Cora drove in the tying runs with a bases loaded single in the ninth.

Things remained tied until the 11th when Ian Desmond hit a two-run double that gave the Nationals the lead back for good. Jayson Werth then provided insurance with a two-run home run off of Scott Linebrink providing the final margin of 7-3.

Atlanta took an early lead in this game after a first inning Brian McCann two RBI double. The Nationals came right back in the 2nd against Atlanta starter Tommy Hanson when Laynce Nix singled home a run cutting the Braves lead to 2-1. Eric Hinske gave Atlanta a little cushion with his fourth homer of the season, a 418 foot shot into the right field stands.

Tommy Hanson lasted 5.2 innings for the Braves allowing five hits and one run. He struck out three and walked two Nationals batters on the night. Nationals starter John Lannan pitched five scoreless innings after allowing that two-run double to Brian McCann in the first inning. He allowed five hits and two runs while striking out three.

Drew Storen got the win for Washington with a scoreless inning of relief. Scott Linebrink takes the loss for Atlanta after surrendering four hits and four runs in just 1.1 innings of work.

Atlanta will send Derek Lowe to the mound tonight in hopes of avoiding a sweep at the hands of the Nationals.
