Jason Heyward Targeting Tuesday As Return Date From Shoulder Injury

Braves outfielder Jason Heyward is targeting a Tuesday return date, according to his Twitter.

Heyward hit off a tee on Sunday and took 30-40 swings, and he came away with the shoulder feeling fine. He said he could be eligible to pinch hit as soon as Sunday, but he will more than likely sit for the Civil Rights Game and could come off the bench on Monday against the Astros.

Heyward entered Saturday's game as a defensive substitution and has already pinch ran, but the injury is to his non-throwing shoulder so it doesn't affect him. But things seem to be going well with swinging so far, and he will fully test it with batting practice on Monday.

Heyward is hitting .220/.322/.433 with a .334 wOBA, certainly below his norms and showing that the shoulder injury has affected his performance at the plate. Like the thumb injury last year, Heyward refused to get rest and treatment and instead played through it, and it has cost him.
