Georgia native Buster Posey is out for a to-be-determined period of time with a broken leg suffered Thursday during a collision at the plate. The injury occurred when Scott Cousins of the Florida Marlins slammed into Posey; Cousins quickly apologized for the incident.
The reigning National League Rookie of the Year has already been placed on the disabled list with a confirmed leg fracture, leading to a spirited debate on whether the MLB should crack down on physical contact at home plate -- with a strong majority saying it's time for that kind of play to be banned. Giants fans, obviously, very strongly agree that it's time for a new rule. Posey will undergo a MRI shortly to determine the extent of the damage.
Posey was born in Leesburg and became a Georgia high school star, playing in some of the same circles as Jason Heyward at the state level.
