Brewers Vs. Braves: Tim Hudson Leads Solid Performances In Doubleheader Sweep

Good individual performances usually lead to wins. The Braves received several of them Wednesday, leading to a doubleheader sweep of the Brewers by a combined score of 16-3.

The most valuable performance of the day was Tim Hudson's complete game one-hitter in the nightcap, leading to an 8-0 victory. He gave up one hit - a Rickie Weeks double in the fourth - and just one other baserunner, walking Weeks with two outs in the ninth. His final line was nine shutout innings on one hit, walking one and striking out six.

Hudson threw first-pitch strikes to 26 of 29 batters faced. He induced 15 ground balls to six fly balls. His game FIP was 1.96 and xFIP was 2.75. His WPA for the game was .251, the best for the day.

Compare to Francisco Liriano's no-hitter from Tuesday: 4.52 FIP, 5.96 xFIP and .868 WPA.

Nate McLouth combined to go 5-5 with a double, home run, two RBIs, three walks and four runs scored for the two games. His combined WPA was .294. His second game was 2-2 with a homer and two RBIs, adding two walks and two runs scored. The one day's worth of games raised his OPS from .692 to .783.

Martin Prado led the Braves to an 8-3 win in the first game by going 3-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored, good for best WPA in the game at .218. He added an RBI in the second game for four total on the day.

This was Tim Hudson's third career complete game one-hitter.

Martin Prado's two-run single in the fourth put the Braves ahead, 4-2, worth .143 WPA.
