Zeke Spruill, Lynchburg Hillcats: Atlanta Braves Prospect Of The Day

Zeke Spruill, a 21-year old right handed pitcher who was the Braves second round pick in the 2008 draft, is Friday's prospect of the day.

Spruill had yet another impressive start tonight for High-A Lynchburg and worked eight shutout innings. He allowed just three hits and one walk, all while striking out eight Kinston Indians. With the win, Zeke improved to 5-7 on the year with a 3.40 ERA. Even more impressive was his ability to add onto his stellar K/BB ratio. With his eight strikeouts, Spruill has now struck out 65 batters in 90 innings all while walking just 12 batters. That's incredible.

A promotion to Mississippi is likely in the near future for the righty. He features a fastball that sits around 90, a curveball and improving changeup. If he's able to continue his strides on the mound, he could likely see playing time in the Major Leagues by 2013. He's definitely a name to keep an eye on as he develops in the farm system and in any potential trades he could be dealt in. Teams want pitching and Atlanta has plenty of it.

Be sure to check out previous prospects of the day and stay tuned to SB Nation Atlanta and Talking Chop for further Braves coverage.
