There was never too much on doubt on whether or not Sean Gilmartin would sign with the Atlanta Braves, but it became official on Thursday night as the left-handed pitcher gave his pledge to become a member of the organization. There were no contract details, bonuses, or incentives listed for the 22-year old, but a press conference is likely going to be held sometime Friday.
Jim Callis of Baseball America was the first baseball media member to confirm the signing, though there had been earlier reports that he had signed. He tweeted:
#FloridaState LHP Sean Gilmartin becomes seventh 1st-rder to sign. No. 28 overall pick by #Braves. More to come shortly. #mlbdraft
Gilmartin will likely join either the Danville or Rome Braves for a few starts before deciding if he'll participate in a Fall League. He'll likely begin 2012 in High-A Lynchburg.
Welcome to Braves Country, Sean.
