Fans have been calling for sidearmer Cory Gearrin to return to Atlanta's bullpen for weeks and the Braves have finally brought the righty back up from Triple-A Gwinnett to add to an already stellar bullpen. Cristhian Martinez, who pitched well in long-relief, was optioned back to Gwinnett. The move isn't performance-based at all for Martinez; he simply wasn't being used with the Braves starting pitchers going deep into games most nights of the week.
Martinez will make a start for Gwinnett to stretch his arm out and will likely return to Atlanta before the season is over. Gearrin will likely serve as one of Atlanta's main right-handed options in the later innings and will hope to regain his form from his previous stint in the Major Leagues. When he keeps his sinker down, he's a huge weapon out of the 'pen with his ability to get a crucial ground ball whenever a double play is needed.
