Brian McCann has a strained left oblique and will be heading to the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday. He strained the oblique in the tenth inning of Tuesday night's game as he attempted to throw out a base stealer. He immediately left the game and was replaced by David Ross.
The injury comes at the worst possible time. The offense has been struggling and Chipper Jones is day-to-day after coming off the disabled list for a torn knee meniscus. One would assume Frank Wren would now be much more likely to add an impact bat at the trade deadline, especially if McCann is going to miss two or three weeks.
An official move will be announced Wednesday morning, but J.C. Boscan will likely be the catcher called up to take over the backup duties in Atlanta. The 31-year old journeyman is hitting .194 with Gwinnett this season.
Get well soon, BMac. We're going to miss you.
